Mr. Robinson, Gifting Candles is NOT Weird.....

Mr. Robinson weird The title is a bit of an inside joke between myself and a friend. I want to share it with you. I am not sure how the topic got started between us both. I believe it may have been a conversation borne from passions for the products we offer here at Arcadia Marketplace.

He was looking for some ideas for gifts for his friends and family for the holidays. I suggested candles. He replied “ I don`t know? Candles seem a little weird to give as a gift.” I couldn't believe anyone could ever think such a thing. Now, you have to understand my friend believes himself to be a self described “not in the feels” kinda guy. This is true for the most part. He is a very analytical type with a keen sense of dry humor. A highly skilled funny man! It was up to me to show him all the reasons why candles are nothing short of a perfect and thoughtful gift.

Scented candles smell good and have aromatherapy effects. With a little basic 101 on essential oils and their effects your gift is indeed very thoughtful. Giving a candle has many mood boosting benefits. Candles make a lovely ambience for bubble baths, dinner, and set a night tone in your home no matter the activity. I always have a candle at my desk. The candle helps me to be both focused and relaxed. I even have one I occasionally burn in the mornings. I am fancy like that. Coffee and candles speaks of all the comforts of home.

Candles are perfect go to mobile gifts. Stock up and you're ready for any special occasion. There is no assembly, no directions and no batteries required.

Apparently, Mr. Robinson had never heard of the term man candle or “mandle.” Ugh, yup!! It is a real word and an actual thing. It is a candle that a man owns. Hence, the term “mandle.” Yes, it is for men who are in touch with their olfactory nerves so well, in fact, that room fragrance is a priority for them. Even men can appreciate a candle as a gift.

Mr. Robinson ended up gifting a few candles and oils to some family. A few container candles were the perfect touch for him. I have heard he received a lot of positive responses from his loved ones too. Not one single person called his gift of candles “weird.”

Ornaments, Paintings and Cake

OranmentspaintingsandcakeOne of the things I enjoy about this time of year in particular is the extra family time and our own special family traditions. Each year since my children have been little hush puppies, I have purchased a new holiday ornament for them for our tree.

One day, when they have become adults

and have families of their own. I will hand down the ornaments for them to enjoy.

When my oldest son was six years old, I began, a tradition of painting our windows using acrylic paint with Christmas trees, Santa or some sort of holiday theme. Each year a different scene. Our finishing touch is adding lights to jazz the window art up some. The lights add sparkle and it displays nicely from both the inside and out. I'm no Bob Ross, let me tell you! Yet, I seem to create passable works that my family enjoys. I know this as they always eagerly await what Mom pulls out of the hat this time! Last year, my fifteen year old daughter began, to join in that fun, and began painting with me. I get the holiday music going, light a few candles, get my cozy slippers on and lose myself a while in the magic of Christmas.

Thanksgiving and Christmas I make a layered Carrot Cake from scratch. That tradition has taken on a life of its own. Apparently, the cake is a real highlight of the holidays for them and that makes me very happy.

We warmly invite you to share with us in the comment section below. What are some of your family's traditions?

Pentagrams for Dummies

Pentagram for Dummies

Contrary to what you have may have been told or have assumed after watching modern crime shows or scary movies, the pentagram, sometimes called the pinnacle, is not a symbol of evil devil worship. Most people know what a pentagram is.

This is probably one of the most recognizable and misunderstood symbols in the world. The pentagram has been used as a religious symbol since the beginning of history. In fact, it is one of the oldest religious symbols on Earth., Dating back to 4000 BC. The pentagram can be found in art, science and math

The pentagram can be found in Ancient Babylon. An inverted pentagram could be found on the seals in the city of Jerusalem. According,to historIan Rene Labat, the inverted pentagram can have discretional and astronomical meaning.

The pentagram is ubiquitous throughout history and has been adapted in many world religions and cultures. A few examples are the Freemasons, Baha'i, Native Americans, Christians, Neopagans (Wiccans) and Satanists. There are, of course, aesthetic differences in their representations. Most notably, Satanist use of the Goat's head. This should not make these two faiths synonymous.

In Ancient Earth based faith, the five-points represent the five elements of fire, earth, air, water and spirit. The circle around the pinnacle itself represents all of the feminine, the goddess, and the connection of all things. The circle around the pentagram compassing symbol is meant to represent the connection we have to each other and all things in nature. Wiccans (often referred to as witches/witchcraft) do not cast spells for evil to befall upon others. They DO NOT worship a Christian Satan. They are a people who cherish life. Wiccans hold the belief that we are all interconnected, that each of us are responsible for our own choices and behavior, and that peace, love and tolerance should be encouraged everywhere.

Grief

GriefGrief is what we experience after the loss of something or someone dear to our hearts, As we move through grief it may bring to us what appears to be an unending supply of tears. This is not a sign of weakness. Nor,is it a lack of faith that in the depths of that murky river of pain that we will all know and need to navigate through at some point in our lives.

Grief can come in to us in various forms, such as loss of a relationship or job, I am speaking about the grief we come to know when a loved one has passed on. When I watched my grandmother fight for her life battling cancer until she could no longer, I knew it was her time to move on and I needed to let her go. She had played a very important role in my childhood. She once told me she believed we were "soul mates". Indeed we were. The last time I sat with my grandmother we held hands as she laid in her hospital bed. She looked over at me weeping and said, "Stacy, now, don't you waste no time grieving for me.life's too short and I have had a good life." I have tried to honor her request. I have, of course, fallen short.

Over the years, the tears have lessened. Yet, they still come to me. I have found that I am able to truly celebrate her within my grief. I know that seems contradictory. It may seem a strange parallel that I can embrace this sense of great loss and the wonderful gifts that she enriched us with simultaneously. There are many ways that I remain connected to her. For one, I speak to her several times a week. I may light a candle Affirmations Grief candle is my favorite . When I do this, I like to use a picture of her and a hand stitched handkerchief that belonged to her and say a simple prayer, ( I swear to you , I can still pick up her scent on that handkerchief). Using her personal items has allowed me to start to transition from grief to use this time to "honor" her. I would like to think that she would love that her life is celebrated by me in this way, Somewhere, she is watching, and this gives her an abundance of joy in knowing I have found peace and comfort.

What are some ways that you have found helpful in dealing with grief? What do you do to celebrate and honor the lives of those who have passed? Leave your comment below. We would love to hear from you.
